Mom In The Picture | A Mother's Day Blog

Mothers Day 2013
Mother's Day is approaching slowly and sneakily, like a child trying to get into the cookie jar.  I know that sound well - it's eerily quiet.  So quiet that at first I breathe a sigh of relief that it's quiet in the house.  But wait.  If you're a mom, you know that feeling.  Something MUST be wrong.  If they were playing, having fun or underfoot, there would be noise.  Quiet can only mean one thing - something is going on that I need to know about!  I've had two approaches to this lack of noise.  One is to call the child's name (or all of them in quick succession) and see if I can pinpoint their whereabouts and then decide to either rush or not worry.  The second one I've been using more frequently.  I try to sneak up on them!  I notice the quiet, start quietly moving from room to room, looking and listening.  Then when I find them I act all surprised!  My kids are big now so I can usually find them doing a quiet activity like Legos or playing on the computer.  But still....  there is the chance...  that they will decide Sharpies are just as good as Crayola markers.

Spring holidays can be like that for me too.  It sneaks up on me and before you know it I'm standing in the card aisle of the grocery store trying to find cards for every mother and grandmother in my life.  With 3 kids who are also looking for cards.  And also with ten other people who are all looking for that "just right" card with the "just right" sentiment and "just right" humor or something.

Finding a gift for a mom isn't an easy task, and any Dad who has taken that on will testify!  Is she a jewelry person?  Perfume?  Clothing?  Purses? Shoes?  If you ask her she will probably say "pedicure, peace and quiet, no cooking."  So this year, I'm here to help you.  Do something she won't expect.  A portrait session for the family, just for her or maybe just for the two of you!

And for you moms who are thinking of a gift for YOUR mom, this works for you too!  Why not surprise your parents with the gift of a portrait session just for them?  For many couples, the last time they take a picture of just the two of them is their wedding.  Let this spring mark a new chapter for them - a time to get MOM in front of the camera!

Autism Awareness Month | Puyallup Family Portraits

Dear Friends,
April is Autism Awareness month.  I was thinking about what to do - put out a blue lightbulb on our home, wear blue, put a blue ribbon on Facebook or my blog.  But it all seemed so small, so paltry, just a token of the love and care that I want to show for this cause.  Because Austism Spectrum Disorder is a huge spectrum, almost every kid is actually completely unique.  Just because they have a diagnosis or Autism or Pervasive Developmental Delay - Not Otherwise Specified doesn't mean that they fit into any kind of box that makes it easier to understand.  Each and everyone has unique strengths and weaknesses.  Just as all people do!  And sometimes their weaknesses are very obvious, sometimes their strengths are more obvious.  I wanted to celebrate these children and their families.

So for the first time ever, and for a limited time only...

If you are a family or know of a family with a child on the Autism Spectrum, now is a good time to book some family portraits.
Please share this link and get the word out.

Summer Families Part 4 |Puyallup and Tacoma Family Portraits

Oh my, the L Family is so full of life and fun, you will NOT stop to catch your breath from laughing and talking when you are with them.  They also met me at an abandoned barn in the Puyallup and Tacoma area.  The evening was well over 90 degrees but everyone was hydrated and we had shade!
The L Family recently welcomed a new little one.  I had the priviledge of capturing Mrs. L's beautiful maternity a few months ago and now it is time to get a full family picture with Little One out here where we can see and enjoy him.
I think you will get a feeling for the amazing energy this family brings with them.  One little guy was not sure of me but we decided to capture the pictures anyway since they are a part of a memory and a stage of life.
Please sit back and enjoy the L Family!

Summer Families Part 3 | Puyallup and Tacoma Family Photographer

For Part 3 of the Summer Families I am skipping ahead just a slight bit to another summer session done in the beautiful sunset light of the Frederickson / South Hill area.
The C Family was very willing to come out just one hour before sunset to an under developed piece of land I've been eyeing for some time.
For this session the lovely ladies were all prepared to model their hearts out and let Mr. C do what comes naturally - hold the fort and make them look gorgeous!
Thanks for a great evening C Family!

Summer Families Part 2 |Tacoma and Puyallup Photographer

Part 2 of the Summer Family focus was the B Family who was celebrating 6 months with little Colette!
I had the pleasure of photographing the extended B Family in June - and their personalities are so much fun!  R & A brought even more personality to this 6 month old's session.  Their uniqueness and zest for life shines through in every situation, even a sleepy baby who doesn't want to smile as much as usual.  We still got beautiful pictures with many wardrobe changes and she never cried!  Please sit back and enjoy this fun and beautiful family!
Miss Strawberry has beautiful eyes!

Miss C has a lot of fashion sense!  Must be from mama!

6 month old lovely!

I'm so curious!

Summer Families Part 1| Puyallup and Tacoma Family Photographer

Mr. and Mrs. F brought their lovely growing family to a beautiful abandoned barn in the Puyallup/Tacoma area.  I have been honored with their loyalty - this is the third year in a row we have worked together!  The 3 year old was not interested in smiling whole heartedly, but he was quite cooperative other wise.  And the little 9 month old girl was VERY happy to oblige in the smiley department!  Thank you for another great year F Family!

The T Family | Puyallup Family Portraits

When Mrs. T asked me to do family portraits for her, I knew it was going to be fun!  Mr & Mrs. T have five kiddos and Mrs. T is an avid quilter.   I figured the quilts should have their share of the portraits as well.  And look how well that turned out.  Meet Mr. & Mrs. T!

Puyallup Family Portraits
The kids are just a hoot.  I expected slightly more challenging than my own, but I was wrong.  Each one had a precious curious nature and played along with my imaginary tools to help bring out their great natural smiles.

Please meet the newest edition, little Miss I - really the roundest little lady I ever did see!

3 month old Miss I
And then there's the "sorta big sister" little Miss L.  It took her a while to warm up to me but when she did she was a wonderful pleasure to work with.

2 year old Miss L
Next is the BIG SISTER Miss M.  She's a princess in training!  And she was quick to inform me that the fairies I told her were hiding in my lantern were pretend!  GASP!  What a fun little girl to play with this evening!

3 year old Miss M
The second oldest is Mr. J.  Although in person he would not let me call him Mister anything. :)  He's a spunky and fun guy who likes to run and play.  Thank goodness we took several breaks to run up the hill or to the woods & back!

4 year old J
And the oldest of this bunch is a sweet thoughtful boy Mr. S.  He wanted to strike a very thoughtful pose, sitting in the chair just like a daddy would.

6 year old Mr. S
The light at this time of night was perfect.  Nearly no glare, no heat and the kids were so well behaved!  I hope you all have a great night T Family!  See you again soon!
